I have a cyst on my remaing ovary, but my Gyn said they leak out and they aren’t worth removing an ovary over. 3 yrs later,I can barely stand to stit without feeling like I’m gonna pee myself!! Why can’t they remove this ovary which I wanted!!!
While 95% of all cysts are benign, the current treatment is a wait and see approach. 44% of cysts will resolve on their own. They should be checked with ultrasound at various intervals. For those that don’t resolve on their own, surgery is usually required
I’ve been doing some reading on ovarian cysts, and the answer that keeps coming up for complex cysts is surgical removal, most often by laparoscopy. This is done due to concerns about ovarian cancer. But aren’t there other options available? And how do they know that a cyst should be removed, particularly if it is multi-compartmental?
I have had a number of complex ovarian cysts that have caused me a lot of pain, once with a 7.7cm cyst they decided to perform surgery (laparoscopy) to remove the cyst but before they got that far my cyst ruptured and I had emergency surgery (laparoscopy).
In April this year I had another complex ovarian cyst that was 4.6cm but my doctor and gyno recommended going on the birth control pill to see whether it would resolve on it’s own and if it didn’t that they would do another laparoscopy to remove it. The last scan I had said that the cyst had kept growing and was 5.1cm, but a week later it once again ruptured, although I didn’t need emergency surgery again.
I guess it depends on the type of cyst, the size and whether or not it causes pain. Most of the cysts I have had has caused me intense pain, however some of them were only about 3.5cm (which my doctor says is not big enough to really operate for) they usually wait a cycle or two to see if they go away on their own as they most often usually do (go away on their own).
I hope this helped answer your question. If you have any further questions regarding ovarian cysts, please feel free to email me anytime (the link to my email is in my profile).
Good luck
I have an ovarian cyst that I had diagnosed two days ago, it is causing me slight pain, but not too bad. I am supposed to go out of town for a camping trip for the weekend and we’ll be camping about 25 miles from the nearest town.
Is it wise to go, or do I need to be near a clinic until the cyst clears up? The cyst is 2.3 CM, and the doctor told me that it was leaking blood, probably because it was getting smaller.
stay by the clinic or dont go.
im sorry and i know you will be sad.
but i had one and it was actually an ovarian torsion
i had to get my tubes intied and stapled to my side and my appendix taken out.
i threw up 45 times in one day.
and had a fever.
worst pains ever.

im 13 by the way. i got mine when i was 12

I am a 23-year old female. I just found out today that a have a fairly large cyst on my right ovary. The doctor said people get them all the time and not to be too alarmed. I will be seeing a gynecologist soon. Until then, does anyone know what usual steps are taken concerning ovarian cysts? Pain? Sympoms? Procedures?etc…Thanks!
Ovarian cysts are products of failed or disordered ovulation.
The cyst may simply collapse and disappear after a month or two, or it may persist and increase in size and discomfort during succeeding months. With each succeeding month’s surge of LH, the cyst swells and stretches the surface membrane, causing pain and possible bleeding at the site. Some cysts may become as large as a golf ball or lemon before discovery.
Don’t let your doctor bully you into birth control pills or surgery. I had my left ovary removed due to a cyst 3 years ago, and I wish I could go back and treat it differently, now that I know better!!
An alternative treatment for ovarian cysts is natural progesterone. The signaling mechanism that shuts off ovulation in one ovary each cycle is the production of progesterone in the other . If sufficient natural progesterone is supplemented prior to ovulation, LH levels are inhibited and both ovaries think the other one has ovulated, so regular ovulation does not occur. Similarly, the high estriol and progesterone levels throughout pregnancy successfully inhibit ovarian activity for nine months.
Therefore, adding natural progesterone from day 10 to day 26 of the cycle suppresses LH and it’s luteinizing effects. Thus the ovarian cyst will not be stimulated and, in the passage of one or two such monthly cycles, will very likely shrink and disappear without further treatment.
Im 20yr old. How do you biopsy a 4.8CM left complex ovarian cyst? How is treatment afterwards? What are the chances it’s cancerous? Will i have to have an ovary removed? I have appt. Thurs but was wondering until then…thanks
I had an Ovarian Cyst years ago the only way to treat is to Operate go in & remove it there is no other treatment once it’s removed you’ll no longer be in pain.It depends how bad it is mine was really bad & my left ovary burst & it had to be removed & my case was bad so I had 2 stay in the hospital due to a Tubal Pregency at the time.I give you my Blessing and I’ll say a Prayer 4 U..Good Luck
What can i do now. I have seen a gyne specialist and have been told I am unable to take the combined contraceptive pill due to my high blood pressure issues. Also that progesterone only treatments are ineffective. I am at a loss as I assumme my chances are increased of experiencing further cysts. Is this also the case? The 2 on the left were drained laparoscopicaly and the 4 on the right drained internally with ulrasound guidence. Any advice, suggestions or similar experiences are appreciated.
No history of other gyne probs, no other of PCOS symptoms. Aged 34, 2 pregnancies and 2 kids. Mirena IUD
There are other contraceptive pills that are effective in helping with ovarian cyst that don’t have issues with blood pressure. Talk to your doctor about these medications, sometimes it has to be a combination of a couple meds to keep your blood pressure under control, but take care of the cyst. A total hysterectomy is not the answer for ovarian cyst, while they are painful sometimes, they also come and go. So talk to your doctor about your options, before giving up and having a hysterectomy.

I was just wondering i have been looking up common symptoms of ovarian cysts and severe bloating of the belly isnt one? but has anyone else had this? I am having a biopsy done to look at my cyst because they doc says it looks abnormal? Has anyone else experienced bloating as well as other symptoms with ovarian cysts?
Yes bloating is a symptom of an ovarian cyst. So is severe pain on the side of your body with the ovary that has the cyst on it. The pain usually happens when you would be ovulating. Pain during intercourse is another symptom. Abnormal or absent periods, weight gain particularly around the abdomen, facial hair, thinning hair on your head, and constipation alternating with diarrhea can all be symptoms of an ovarian cyst.
That’s not to say that you will have all of the symptoms because it will be different for every woman.
All the best on your biopsy. I pray to God it will be fine.
I had an ultrasound five months ago due to excess bleeding and was told I had an ovarian cyst (a small one). I had a D&C and the mirena coil inserted. Recently, my abdomen seems much fatter and I’m not sure if I’m just putting on weight due to a little less exercise or if the cyst could be causing this. Anyone got any experience of this? Thanks.
It potentially could cause abdominal swelling, but in that case, it would be fluid, which is hard, like a balloon filled with water. But fat is jiggly like jello.
